Just wondering what this Final Fantasy anime DVD series is like? Anyone got
them?

I think I've only managed to up to about episode 7 thus far. Its a
really odd show, and is somewhat infamous for having been axed half way
through its run (I mean, an FF show being axed? That should probably
tell you something).

To quote myself from elsewhere in regards to the first episode

"Twelve years after a mysterious black pillar rose out of the ocean,
twins Yu and Ai board the Helltrain to the mysterious Wonderland in
search of their parents, famous for writing a book on Wonderland. In the
process they meet the token large-chested girl in tight clothing Lisa
and a badass with a past so mysterious even he doesn=3Ft know his name. Oh,
and they meet a chocobo and get attacked by a monster which Badass dispatches using a
HUGH gun firing soil based bullets.

I got the thinpack set for FFU. The packaging is kind of nice - it
doesn=3Ft take up much shelfspace or anything. There is some nicely animated water in
this episode as well, and some nice musical cues taken from the Final Fantasy games.

Thats pretty much it in terms of positive things to say about it. Its
pretty much the most ludicrously tedious thing I=3Fve ever seen. Its really,
really hard to believe that this is the same Mahiro Maeda who worked on Gankutsuou or
the break-neck Blue 6. Its not that the tedium is the only bad poit either - the
character designs are pretty droll and overly simplistic, made worse by the single-
tone colouring used throughout. Then there is the truely dreadful CG animation
they=3Fve mixed in=3F

This will teach me to actually listen to people on occasion, as its been
pretty well documented how terrible the show was (at least to begin with
- not many stuck with it to see if it improved). Of course, many said
similar things about shows like Arjuna, Soultaker and Heat Guy J, so I=3Fm
sure you can understand why I take some of these comments with a pinch of salt.

At this point, I=3Fm still determined to get through the whole thing, but I=3Fll
leave you to guess how far I=3Fll actually get."

It *marginally* improves a few episodes in, and its absolutely
astonishing a director as good as Maeda could produce something so,
well, not. If you really, really want to try it, the US budget re-
release retails for about $50 (so about $30 once you take into account
discounts).

Just don't say I didn't warn you ^^;=3F=3F=3F=3F
