This is exactly what I did. I bought a D-Link switch off eBay for £8 (!)
to
match my D-Link WiFi bridge. We have two laptops which connected
wirelessly
to our Draytek router but they work in conjunction with the Xbox (PS2 not
set up for internet yet). We don't need to turn off the laptops first.
Maybe
this is different for the PS2, or maybe because it's WiFi?

Either way, as Slitheen says, it's very cheap and very easy to use a
network
switch. For me, it worked just like using a standard mains extension
socket - no set required at all and it effectively gives me five 'sockets'
(ports) to use with my bridge. (One for Xbox, one for PS2 and now one for
my
laptop as the WiFi card has just died!)

Cheers,

Chris

Yeah, I bet there are many who bought a router when a switch would have
sufficed. On the PS2 site, and in the manual, it doesn't even offer it as a
possibility. It only offers; direct connection, router set-up, or connection
sharing via a PC's network/Ethernet card.

A serious home network requires a router, but the bloke who just doesn't
want to have to swap cables around when flitting from one device to the next
would be wise to save some money. Presently, I have a cable going from my
modem to my PC, and one going from my PS2 to the modem, but
unplugged.....then when I want to play PS2, I just quickly pull the PC's
Ethernet cable from the modem and plug in the PS2's. A switch would be a lot
easier though - which reminds me, I must buy one. No time like the present,
I guess. :)
