that PS2 without modification. You can't, for instance, pop an
american game into a euro PS2 and write it to the hard drive using HD

Ah, that's ok then. It's just to save the drive from dying, as I'm
wondering about whether the ps3 will be able to run ps2 games well or not,
and don't fancy the chances of the drive surviving for many more years in
order to continue running my favourites. :)
