Imports?

I have an old-style PS2 from almost release date.

I've never bothered with imports before but I now soooooo want the original
Katamari Damshi (US version)

Is there an easy way that doesn't invlove soldering chips into the PS2
(Something like the Freeloader disc I used to play my import Animal Crossing
on the Gamecube)?
