Ethernet 'switches' or 'hubs' are cheaper and less hassle than routers for this purpose, as they self configure. Routers arte great for a network set-up, but if you just want to split your connection between PC and PS2, to save hot swapping the cable each time you flit between PC and PS2, then a switch would be ideal. They're plug and play, and auto detect speed/duplex. The next simplest method to a direct connection, and easier than setting up a router (and cheaper...did I say it was cheaper?) ;)
