Not nearly - I keep wondering around taking in the view. Stopping to
smell the flowers and all that. MGS3 took me 28 hours the first time, of
course I could clear that in 12/13...If I wanted. :)

Yet another aside - have you noticed the clever way in which they use
exposure and focus effects? When you go from a light area into a darker
one,
the dark one in front looks *really* dark, then as you enter it, it
lightens
up. Looking back out where you came from is then blindingly bright, and
out
of focus, just like when your eyes get used to a darkened room.

Well for me, this team is the simply best in the world for effects with
'natural' light. They quite unbelievably proved that back in 2002 with Ico -
when most dev teams were still struggling to get to grips with the new
hardware. Probably the direct affiliation with Sony, as with Polyphony
Digital, meant they got their hands on equipment before other 3rd parties, I
don't know - or maybe they just have a natural flair. The natural light
effects in Ico, coming through windows in the castle and such, is truly
astounding. With water too - can anyone offer me a better example of water
being rendered by the PS2 than the water beneath the windmill in Ico? The
team that made Splashdown do quite well with water, but just that little bit
of water in that one stage of Ico takes the Mickey out of theirs (although
still/sea are very different waters to render). Climb high to the top of the
'rock bit' in the windmill area of Ico and see the reflection of the
windmill, moving naturally in the ripples of the water beneath it...it's
simply something wonderful to behold. It's even rare that my high-spec
gaming PC treats me to something approaching both the natural light and
water effects that this team manages on the 'lowly' old PS2. It is, I
suppose, because of the fast paced disposability of PC graphics cards...on a
console, they have a fixed hardware spec for 4-5+ years to work with (Xbox
not really included due to the short life-span and being upgraded only 3
years into its life). This means that they can make better use of the
hardware, wringing every last drop of power that they can from it, while the
lazy PC developer merely insists you upgrade hardware to achieve better
results. Of course, PC games look better in general, but never achieve all
they're capable of like consoles do - which, on the odd game, with the odd
trick of light or something similar, can even embarrass a PC. SOTC is a fine
example of people working on the same spec for such a long time. Some argue
SOTC was too ambitious, but the odd drop in frame-rate has not spoiled this
gamer's enjoyment one bit. The landscape and natural light effects, let
alone the Colossi themselves.....well, I'm gobsmacked by them all, frankly.
:)

I can only imagine what Zelda Twilight Princess will look like coming out so
late in its console's life - I can't wait for that. All these games we're
talking here are better than anything on certain new hardware, this is the
final generation of games from these consoles we're talking here - and
notoriously great are they. :)

I just keep finding things in this game that make me like it more and
more.
:)

Me too. Instant classic. The most original concept for a game I've come
across, probably ever, really.

I'll have to get back to playing something else before I finish it though.
I've still got PoP3, FFX-2, Sims 2 and Ultimate Spiderman in progress!

I too am half way through POP3, and I have Doom 3 to finish...along with
Resident Evil 4 on my trusty old Cube (2nd time, but really enjoying it). If
I can put the PS2 controller down from playing this though.....well I don't
know if I want to really. If I do, I can only presently imagine popping in
my spanking new copy of Ico. :)

Best regards.
