Must.....not....take....bait....
Dammit! The PSP is a jack of all trades master of none. It does many
things, none of them well, as with most convergence devices. I think
it has been proven in the past people do not want convergence devices.
There are very few games worth owning on it right now, nothing that
justifies £180.
I already have MP3 that doesnt require me to carry round memory cards
and holds many many more songs.
Buy a UMD over a DVD? No thanks, its headind the same way as the
MiniDisc did.
Fact is at the moment there has been a superb run of great games
appearing for the DS. I cannot remember another console that as has
had so many good games in such a short period of time. The DS is
selling well because it appeals to gamers and non-gamers(due to
intutive and simple games like ZooKeeper, Meteos and Polarium) alike,
young and old. It has the games, the PSP doesnt, and its the games
that make the hardware.
The DS is designed to appeal to a large range of people, not just to
kids and every adult I have showed it to from seasoned gamers to people
that find current gen games and controls to complex to bother with have
found games that they like to play. Give my girlfriend a PS2/Xbox or
GC jpypad and she will be bored before I have finished explaining the
controls to her. Give her the DS and ZooKeeper and I wont get it back
for an hour or more...
but you also have games like Advanced Wars, Castlevania and Mario Kart
that have more depth to them for gamers like you and me. Something for
everyone, and you know what you are getting.
I think the PSP is confusing for alot of buyers, and most are buying it
for games mainly, until they find there are not any and PS2 ports wont
cut it.
