I probably won't be hooking it up to the net as that's what I use my PC for and any multiplayer titles will still be played on it.

There's no good reason not to hook it up to the net. It has ethernet and wireless built in, and if you don't you miss out on patches, updates and bug fixes, DLC, free demos and all the great weird stuff on the PSN store (Flower, Stardust and the like), as well as being able to stalk the rest of us by seeing what we're playing and comparing trophies.

It comes with composite in the box, like everything does. AFAIK the Saturn was the only console ever to ship with a SCART cable. Everything else went from RF to composite.

If your monitor doesn't have HDMI, you can get HDMI to DVI cables for less than a fiver, you'll still get all the digital signal loveliness, and you won't run into any issues if people ever start implementing HDCP on Blu-Rays.
