Really worried about the 360. Damn thing is so loud even when it's not
spinning a disk. And sometimes it takes ages to shut down and I have
to
*gasp* press the big button on the front. It was made in 2007 and I
really
hate it now. Purely in terms of noise you understand.
Sooo... Elites are going for £199 with games at most online
retailers. How
much would I get for my current box plus a 120GB drive? And how do I
ensure
I'm getting a newer 360 which I'm told are a bit quieter?
Get an arcade and use the 120GB drive you already have. You cannot
transfer stuff from one 120GB drive to another so you'll have the
problem of transferring saves and bought downloads.
I'm assuming you don't currently have an elite. The HDDs are different
colours. If that doesn't bother you (or the buyer of your old one), you
could just put your old HDD on the new 360 of course.
I did exactly this. I got an arcade recently as my old one had a dead
PSU and was as noisy as hell. I got an official HDMI lead for it to get
the sound dongle. This all worked out cheaper than an Elite. Mine was
made in June 2009 and has the very latest MB (Jasper) and 512MB onboard
memory, bought from Amazon.

It is a lot quieter BTW.
Many thanks.
Yes I don't have an Elite, it's the replacement I got from MS for the first
bust 360. The Arcade idea never occurred to me because for some reason I
assumed they were now using onboard memory but obviously they must still be
able to accept a hard disk.
So I just need to check the back to find the markings that say 150W, 12.1A
to indicate a Jasper?
12.1A on the back of the 360 is the giveaway info.
They should come with a smaller lower rated PSU now (mine did) but I think some older ones might have the older PSU. The new PSUs have a key lug to prevent them being used on older 360s.
Any big retailer should only have Jasper stock of arcades by now I would have thought. I don't know the situation with Elites. When I bought my arcade (in August) I was pretty certain I would get a Jasper.
You should be able to find some bundle deals as well. The arcade went up in price recently (the elite came down) but it's bundled with a couple of games I think which you could keep or trade.
