Rach wrote:But if I were to keep the 6930 would it be such a big downgrade?Hello,
Can anyone help me? I've got 2 laptops here and I want to know which one is best and I thought people with better knowledge of chipsets and stuff might know better than me.
Firstly I have an Acer Aspire 5920g which has:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7300, 2ghz, 800hmz fsb, 4mb Cache (Sticker on laptop says Intel Centrino Duo)
2gb DDR RAM
Nvidia Geforce 8600m GS 256mb
230gb SATA150 5400rpm
DVD Recorder
The seconds one is an Acer Aspire 6930g which has:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800, 2ghz, 800mhz, 2mb Cache (Sticker on laptop says Intel Centrino 2)
3gb DDR RAM
Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS 256mb TurboCache
250gb SATA 5400rpm
Blueray Drive
I suspect theres not much difference, However I suspect the Graphics card on the 5920g is better than the 6930g and that the processor maybe better on the 6930g, but I'm really not sure.
Windows seems to rate the graphics card on the 5920g much higher (3.9 on the 6230g and 5.2 on the 5920g) but I'm not sure if this is reliable. Everything else seems to be quite similar.
So which is the best? I have been known to play the odd game of UT3 and maybe Orange box, and my 5920g has always been fine.
I was going to sell my 5920g but I'm not having second thoughts, but the model numbers of the graphics card and the cpu confuse me and I was hoping some one with more knowledge could help.
So which would you go for if you were in my shoes?
1. I think the 7300 is the better processor. That's half guesswork seeing as Intel don't seem to list a 5800 as existing, but I presume it's next up from the 5750 which explains it having half the L2 cache of the 7300 whilst being otherwise identical.
2. Again nothing concrete but a sort of Nvidia rule of thumb of late says the last 3 digits are what you should be comparing, so the 8600 would be closer to a 9600 and the 9300 is closer to an 8300. Making the 8600 more powerful, if a little older.
But overall, if the 5920 is fine for you and you don't care about lack of blu-ray then don't bother switching, such small incremental upgrades aren't worth it.
