PLAY
Etrian Odyssey. Nothing more, nothing less. A bit of grinding whilst
reading a newspaper, and some exploration whilst drinking a few pints.

I imagine now that English pubs are devoid of dartboards and football
broadcasts and are full of young men playing FIFA and Chu Chu Rocket
against one another. :)

Sadly not. Eight of us once went into the pub to play MKDS against each
other. Everyone around thought we were weird, sad and antisocial. They
failed to see us shouting and laughing in equal measure having great fun
as they all sat solemnly in the corners trying to find something to talk
about...

I do this quite regularly with friends and it's a blast.

Mind you, in the past I've bumped into people from work before in the pub
and been on the receiving end of snide remarks, so I do know what you
mean.

Their loss, I say.

At risk of being open-minded, I can see the opposing point of view. The
old world is full of people whose lives are devoted to maintaining the
order of class and the benefits of genealogy. In their minds, video gaming
may be a child's activity that's perfectly acceptable for adults to do,
but only in the privacy of their own homes. Their objection is not really
that you game, but that you're doing so in sight of others. Gentlemen
shouldn't behave that way, you see. The same objection might be levelled
at a sports official whose leisure activities involve applying the lash to
young female members of the third reich. :)
