This might have been my stupid idea, so with your permission (or maybe completely without it) I'll kick off the ten years ago (TYA) thread. I'll leave it to others to come up with funny phrases to match the acronym at a later date...

Ten years ago, I apparently posted to RGVSega about having played Silpheed on the Mega CD for the first time. I hadn't yet bought a Playstation and the Dreamcast was still 18 months away, so I was curious about how well 16-bit hardware handled 3D graphics. There was less technology wonkery at the time, but the consensus was that a lot of consoles faked it by using rotating, scaled sprites. This was true of the Megadrive, the SNES and the Atari Lynx.

Speaking of the Lynx, I see that I was looking forward to some new releases on Atari's doomed handheld by some independent company. The portable market was already dominated by the Gameboy Colour at the time, but that didn't stop some companies from being ambitious. Sadly, it looks like the RPG I was waiting for never actually got coded or released.

Finally, ten years ago I was arrogant enough to suggest that the Temple of Apshai was a candidate to be listed as one of the top action RPG titles. I don't think that any more, since 3D graphics and interfaces have changed the way those games are played. I still think Apshai is cool, but it's aged much worse in the past decade than it did the twenty years before. I'll still play it though, if I can ever find time to run a proper Apple II emulator.

This concept may be a thrilling exercise in nostalgia. Or it may be dead on arrival. I invite you to participate in it or ignore it as you see fit. :)

A very good idea and full of nostalgia! It would appear that 10 years ago I had yet to darken the doorstep of the ugv* hierarchy. Instead I was posting in a magic group and waxing lyrical about how amazing a new website was that had just been launched. It makes me laugh to read it now, but then I must have been genuinely impressed, after all, it had a shopping cart!

Has anyone with a new browser seen the sneak peek of Hank Lee's new catalogue? If so were you as blown away as me? All that interactive stuff, shopping cart, flashy buttons, smart graphics. Totally amazing, it's worth just looking at it even if you aren't planning on buying. I was completely amazed!! The things that can be done on the WWW these days, makes you wonder what will be in IE 5.0! Anyway, if you don't know the URL of Hank Lee then it's http://www.hanklee.com go take a look and be impressed!!

I don't think I've been to the website since, and having just checked, it still looks almost exactly the same as I remember.

The earliest post I can find from me round these parts dates from January 2003, but I'm sure I posted before then so I'll have to do a bit more digging!
