But, but, but, but, but...
I can't imagine anything less like *fun* than making myself play a game
to completion before starting something else, just to stick within a
self-imposed regime.
The other extreme is just spinning your wheels playing a bunch of intros,
not having the time to appreciate a game to its full potential. If
anything it's playing/touching a game just to say you have that's the
soulless pursuit - especially if it's just to fulfil a need manufactured
in you by corporate marketing types :)
I'll happily admit to being a sufferer of the 'shiny new thing syndrome'.
Every time I'm out in town, I really struggle not to buy something. I like
getting new games, whether I need them or not. I'd argue that that need
comes not from marketing types, but from an insatiable love of the games. I
used to be like that with music, racking up dozens and dozens of CDs that
got listened to, at best, once. I get the impression that the majority of
ugvm posters have this personality trait, and I don't think it's something
that we should all feel the need to overcome. Clearly there are practical
limits, and family/food/mortgages/substance abuse must come first, but for
goodness sake, let's not start feeling guilty about buying too many games.
It's what we do.
Chris.
