STOP. HAMMER TIME.

That's it.

It's time to stop this madness.

I'm getting out of the release day rat race.

I am - I AM - going to give games the time they deserve.

I'm going to play Final Fantasy XII - and I'm going to finish it. I'm going to get Disgaea 2 on the PSP and spent months with it, only leaving when the thought of another trip to Item World makes me want to puke. I'm going to complete all those Slitherlink puzzles. I'm going to finish Halo 3 on Heroic, if not Legendary. And I'm going to play it online again. I'm going to finish playing through Half-Life 2 and Episode 1 before I make a start on Episode 2. I'm going to play the first Football Manager on the PSP and not worry about the 2008 version; it's not like I know the real team members anyway. I'm going to play all those unplayed 360 games, like Overlord and Call of Juarez. I'm going to try bosses twenty, thirty times until I beat them and can move on instead of giving up after three or four goes. I'm going to complete Paper Mario and Ocarina of Time on the Virtual Console. I'm going to beat my own high score on Geometry Wars. I'm going to get every single available point on Sega Rally - on the 360 and the PSP. I'm going to play Final Fantasy VII again, finally. I'm going to master characters in my fighting games, as far as my aging reflexes let me. I'm going to finish Jeanne D'Arc and then play Final Fantasy Tactics. I'm going to play whole seasons of baseball. I'm going to dig out Advance Wars DS and learn to love the CO powers. I'm going to start and finish Anno 1701 on the DS. I'm going to get a Silent Assassin rating on every level of Hitman Blood Money.

I am no longer going to be tempted by the new. I am no longer going to give in to the stupid, annoying bit of my brain that needs games on release date, that needs games NOW NOW NOW.

I am going to wait for things to be cheap. Assassin's Creed will be under fifteen quid somewhere, one day. Ratchet and Clank for the PS3 will be a tenner online in a couple of years. Guitar Hero 3 will be cheap on the PS2 by the summer, I'm sure, and I've already got the guitar for that version. Super Mario Galaxy will still be on sale in the weeks and months after its release.

Yeah, I know you don't believe me. And, yes, I'll probably be trading stuff in towards Super Mario Galaxy by the end of November, if not release weekend. And I will get horribly jealous reading PWB every week. And there will be temptation that's going to be hard for me to resist. But I really do mean this. I've got a wife to support. I've got debts that need to be paid off, not left to fester earning banks hundreds of pounds in interest.

And I just haven't got the fucking time any more.
