Nope, I don't own either of the "next gen" consoles neither.

Financially, I can't afford either the 360 or PS3, and having played on
both (and the Wii), I'm still failing to see what the excitement is all
about. Even if I was employed, it's unlikely I would be ditching my PS2
any time soon for something that seems to only offer better graphics on a
type of TV I have no intention of buying.

I'm going to have to take issue with that, I'm afraid. Even playing on a
28" SD set (as I did for several months prior to upgrading to LCD), the
360 looks really noticeably better than previous generations. This has
been re-inforced recently for me, as I have been playing my older consoles
in the absence of my 360 (and if you'd listed hardware failure rates as
one of your concerns, I'd have no argument with you whatsoever!).

I'd concur with all of that. I'm *still* playing in SD and games are
definately better looking. Compare PGR4 to PGR2 and the differnce is
striking. If anything I'd say the difference between SD game and HD game is
less than the difference between Xbox game and 360 game. If that makes
sense. Got a shiny new monitor at the weekend so I'm finally playing in HD
but I really don't think it makes that much difference. Other than you get
4 pixels to aim at in Rainbow Six than 1.

Also, there's no way I'd pay to play against a bunch of 12-year-olds
online when I can do that on my PC for free.

Again, my opinion differs. There's nothing that says you *have* to play
against the 12-year-olds. ;) Seriously, though, Live is a superbly
polished service, and I don't know anybody who's signed up to it that
doesn't think it's worth the money. Yes, PC online gaming is largely free,
as is the PSN, but personally I don't begrudge a single penny of the money
I've spent on Live over the years.

I had a Rainbow Six Vegas session on Saturday night and earlier in the week
and Halo 3 rocket race session. Just those two night make live worth it for
me as it was the most gaming fun I'd had in aaaaaaaaaages.

And as for Crackdown. Thats made for co-op play. More Crackdown please,
lots and lots more.

Ooh, and Halo 3. Being on the back of Jochtas mongoose and discovering that
you can melee the driver was still funny the 6th time I did it.
