Jeanne D'Arc (PSP) - I'm so rubbish at these SPRG games. Everyone says that
this game is piss easy, but I've hardly got anywhere and I keep making silly
mistakes which mean I have to repeat levels. And even when I win, keeping
Liane alive doesn't seem to happen very often, so she's lagging behind in
levels. Anyway, I unlocked a new Free Battle stage last night, so I think
I'll go and practice there for a while. This game is great. I love the
Unified Guard system. Keeping groups of units together makes it feel like a
team game, whereas in other SPRGs I've played I tend to think of individual
units. It's all very evocative; I can see the battles in my mind in glorious
real time action. My healer running from group to another as needed,
multiple fronts, hacking my way up a street to get to my target, a desperate
push over a bridge, people turning back to help a character whose sword arm
slipped when he should have finished off an enemy, the archer running for
high ground, Jeanne calling forth the power of the armlet in a final,
decisive move to end the battle. And stuff. It's really helped by the
graphical design of the levels. Battling on the steps of a windmill - with
moving sails! - last night just felt very cool indeed, in a way that a bare
grid with tiles of different heights just couldn't match. I love Disgaea -
PSP version pre-ordered, of course - and I miss creating my own characters,
but there's something about Jeanne D'Arc's presentation that means I'm not
seeing it just as a head-scratching, turn-based strategy game, but also as
an action movie going on in my head.

You maked me orderise this. My wife will be unhappy.
