Naturally it crashes during what I presume is the demo-end battle, in
the chamber just before where Atlas asked me to get to. Ho hum. And
now I remember why I can't be arsed with Windows any more... after
twelve years being a competent domain sysadmin amongst other things.
You using the beta drivers?
The ones that the readme tells me to, yes.
Then I'm stumped, cos the only flakiness I've heard about is caused by
NOT using the beta drivers.
J
getting:
"The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are
compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
when i try to install them. Even though my cards are supposedly
supported by these drivers.
Uninstalled old drivers properly, used driver cleaner to remove any
traces of the old driver while in safe mode, installing the new drivers
(including the international version) but without any luck - however it
did let me install the latest non-beta drivers so it looks like this
beta one is flakey for me.
Having just checked my drivers again, it seems that the installer didn't
actually install the beta drivers after all - it just buggered up the nVidia
settings panel forcing me to reinstall my old drivers (current non-beta)
just to allow me to adjust my graphics settings again. My card is a 6800
SLi.
Presumably that performance boost I thought I saw the other night was a
placebo...

been given a possible solution to my beta driver installation problem
tonight - so i'll give it a go tonight.
Though i didn't find any particular issues running bioshock using the
latest 162.18 non-beta drivers beyond the performance ones that a new
and faster computer couldn't fix anyway.
Trying it at 1680x1050 and set to medium settings and with the Bioshock
profile set to split frame rendering for SLI as the default one makes my
screen shake.
Though I'm only up to the point where you first kill something, but if
it comes down to it I'll either set it to low settings or run it in
windowed mode at a lower resolution.
