Some advice, please, from those of you who know about RF, televisions,
and old hardware.
I have this Videomaster Strika2 (http://www.pong-story.com/strika2.htm).
The original manual tells me I should tune my TV to channel 36. Some of
you may already know that there are 47 standard channels in the UK
running from 21 to 68 and it is in this range that I can find channel 36.
I have two TVs. A nice big one and a smaller worse one. The big one is a
Panasonic TX-36PB50. The small one is a Toshiba Genericovision
Widescreen.
On my main TV, when I tune the Videomaster Strika2 to
channel 36, I get a garbled mess. I can tell it's pong under there,
but it's completely unusable.
If I connect the device to my second telly and tune it to 36, I also receive the same garbled pong mess.
HOWEVER.
If I tune my 2nd small TV to channel 18 I get perfectly good image quality.
Great!
HOWEVER.
My nice big Panasonic which I'd rather use does not allow me to tune all
the way down to channel 18. It restricts me to the range of broadcast
channels (from 21 to 68).
The sharp amongst you will notice that 18 is exactly half of 36. I
suspect there is something going on here, some kind of frequency halfing.
I wonder if anyone knows a way of tuning my TV to channel 18, just
outside of the broadcast channel range, or alternatively adjusting the
Strika2 to output RF at double the frequency.
I jus' wanna play pong in Retro Week, man!
Possibly a simpler solution than KK's :
You may find that another device is inputting on channel 36 - videos often do - so make sure this is the only device in the chain.
You could also try fine tuning, it is possible that the tuning has drifted off.
Finally - there may be an adjustable pot type device in the console which can be adjusted to change the channel output.
- I have used various combinations of these over the years to get old consoles working.
