Not entirely sure what the point of this post is to be honest, it just annoys me that the people who need the money the most are the ones that seem to be needlessly paying the premiums (certainly in my friends case), but if they're happy with that is it all well and good to just leave them be? I just think anyone who is happy with it must have a screw loose.
You're tight, but not in a bad way. There was a programme on BBC1 that I caught the end of yeasterday about how supermarkets manipulate buyers. Some of the tricks were pretty obvious to me (and probably to some in this group), but apparently that puts me in the 5% of people that see through them. There's also a personal cost some are willing to pay knowingly for convenience. It's also probably why we pay more for the same things.
I do like programmes like that. You don't happen to know the name of it? Or was it like a Panaorama Special or something?
I guess they talked about the "*** bins" at the end of each aisle & at the cash registers, and the fresh smells, lazy music, wide-aisles, hiding the milk, etc.?
I 'enjoy' noticing these things myself -even though this kind of social-engineering bugs me no end.
I dunno if it's a known quote, but a colleague once told me that "individuals are clever, but people are stupid".
It's crowds that are stupid.
This is why people rush to something that is labelled BEST SELLER or HUGELY POPULAR. They buy without thinking because "well it must be good if it's so popular -why should we think? -others have freed us from that responsibility! I am not alone, so if it turns out bad... at least I'm not alone!"
The same people can be (and often are) very intelligent when it comes to things they perceive as being more personal to them, although most like to abdicate their responsibility/requirement for free-thought whenever possible.
