As I've been playing nothing but Oblivion, there's nothing to toss away
this week. I do see the end coming however, as I'm sensing there's very
little replay value. Shame that it doesn't share the longevity of
Morrowind.

What?!

I've spent 32 hours, more or less, on it so far, and have only done about
three side quests, and got as far as taking Sean Bean to Cloud Temple Mountain
Place Mystic Emerald Sanctuary Castle in the main quest. I've delved into
only two mines/forts/caves, and haven't even been to three of the cities yet,
and have only closed one Oblivion Gate.

I'm guessing that at the current rate, it'll take me a good 300 hours to see
most of the game.

Yes, but will you do that all with the same character, or with multiple
characters? One of the great joys of Morrowind was a complete ability to
sidestep anything that was even remotely related to the main quest. It was
possible to start a new character in Morrowind, walk in a different
direction and have a completely different experience. Oblivion doesn't
share that quality, as it seems to force more of the main quest on you no
matter what kind of character you play. I don't feel quite as motivated to
start up an alternate because my current character has access to
everything already.

That's just my own opinion, of course. I may see rigidity in the game
where others see flexibility. It's a qualitative judgement, and I'm not an
authority by any measure. I am interested to see how long it takes the
modders to render the Oblivion world in the Morrowind engine, or vice
versa.
