Thats what I am doing - the guilds one by one. I had joined the Mages and
Thieves at first then slipped up in a thieves quest and killed a mages
member - they banned me. lol
So I think its better to be in one guild at a time :-)

I'm actually running through the guilds the way I did in Morrowind, as a
way of producing solutions to problems presented in the main quest. Not a
good enough fighter? Get in the arena and learn some skills. Can't pick
that lock? Join the Mage's guild and learn some alteration powers. I don't
anticipate wringing the game dry and becoming the head of every last
guild, though.

Hey, as long as we're talking about Elder Scrolls games? Is there any
indication that there's an 'official' version of the Morrowind story? All
the canon literature found in the game is purposefully vague about the
gender and the race of the Nerevarine so that any player's experience will
fit the narrative, but I always wondered if there was an intended version
the way fighting games have intended victors.
