I bought an iPod *because* I like iTunes! I know I'm in the minority
there, but despite its obvious flaws, it is very good at managing vast
amounts of music. It uses a ton of RAM, but I've got a ton of RAM and I
might as well use it for something. I know it doesn't support Ogg or
FLAC, but I don't use Ogg or FLAC. I don't buy music from any digital
download services as I prefer to buy CDs and have something physical
(and better quality) for my money, so being "locked" to the iTunes Music
store isn't a problem. I keep all my music in MP3 format, so the lack of
format support isn't a problem either.

All in all, iPod + iTunes suits me fine; I'm fully aware of its
misgivings, but they don't affect me.

As an iTunes-user-but-not-iPod-owner, the thing that gets me about
iTunes is the way it installs a Windows service for the iPod regardless,
and is now bundled with Quicktime and so on. Why?!

Well Quicktime is there so that you can view quicktime files within
iTunes. Its mainly for the iPods with video.
