Play:
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (PS2): Bit easy this as the game practically
holds your hand in Story Mode, although Classic Mode puts up a slightly
tougher challenge. I say "slightly" because my custom skater already had
reasonably high stats to begin with for some reason. It also looks as though
there's been a little carelessness with some of the graphics - things like
ATMs being twice the size of the skater for instance, and the Mall level in
Classic Mode having window displays and doors big enough for 12-foot giants
to walk through with room to spare, and steps/escalators dwarfing my custom
skater (some of the rails seem to go right over her head!). On top of that,
graphic-shearing is another issue - The game's obviously running at 60fps,
but the video is being output at 50fps leading to situations where parts of
the screen don't always refresh quick enough. Still a fun game though.
What's THUG 1&2 like? The last Tony Hawk's game I played on PS2 was THPS3,
but I'm tempted to pick these up cheap when I'm in Manchester tomorrow.
Tony Hawk's American Sk8land (DS): It's only after playing its bigger
brother that you realise what a damn good job Vicarious Visions did with the
DS version. The level layouts are almost the same (probably why I'm finding
THAW so easy at the moment?) and most of the moves I learned from THAW seem
to work here as well. Bit annoying that the Revert doesn't act as a
multiplier in this game though.
Animal Crossing DS: Just popping in now and again. Must check to see how
much turnips are going for today... If only I can be bothered to switch on
my DS to do it!
X2 (PC): It's got some seriously annoying bugs (trading system doesn't
always work, and entering a jumpgate in autopilot leaves you control-less in
the next system until you view the in-game menu a couple of times), and the
voice acting became so unbearable that I turned the voices off and now rely
on subtitles, but I'm still enjoying it.
Want:
THUG 1&2 if they're any good.
Not a lot else.
Bin:
Going back to work on Wednesday.
Paul.
