As Kendrick's already said, you'll probably be after stuff that's branded
as "shoujo", targetted towards girls specifically.

However, all this will depend on what kind of thing she actually likes,
and how strict you are on certain things. Because the Japanese are
frankly odd, books targetted at young girls will occasionally contain
things that we might not be so hot on them reading; there was recent
controversy in the US when a 12 year old girl brought home a copy of
Peach Girl which features date-rape and drug use to her conservative
parents.

Some titles I might recommend based on what a 12 year old girl MIGHT
like;

DN Angel - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/159182799X/qid=
1135076489/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_11_3/203-2998804-3757550 - a fairly fluffy
action romance, contains nothing objectionable at all and isn't _too_
girly.

Kare Kano - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1931514798/qid=
1135076560/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/203-2998804-3757550 - a classic school
romance/comedy, it's really very good indeed, although could possibly be
a little too angsty.

Alice 19th - http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1591162157/qid=
1135076884/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_3_1/203-2998804-3757550 - another action
romance, a bit heavier on the action than DN Angel.

There are absolutely loads out there, but I'm playing it pretty safe with
these recommendations; a lot more shoujo titles get pretty heavy on the
smut or violence, as to be expected from manga I suppose. Kendrick's
suggestions of Boys Over Flowers and Ouran High School Host Club sound
pretty good, as does Sailor Moon; in a similar vein to Ouran Host...
there's also Hana-Kimi
(http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1591163293/qid=1135077014/sr=2-
2/ref=sr_2_19_2/203-2998804-3757550) but that might pitch a bit too old.

I hope this helps even a tiny bit; if you're not averse to forum posting,
you could try the AnimeOnDVD forums manga section
(http://forums.animeondvd.com) where, if you're polite, I'm sure the
regulars will have no problem helping out; they do come across pretty
harsh sometimes though.
