Sorry for starting a new thread on this but the other one had started to
slip off the map. I just refreshed my newsgroup list, and there it was,
right at the bottom!

Luck lucky. Aww man, NTL piss me right off. When I was on Freeserve, every
week nearly I got the old 'there are new newsgroups, do you wish to see
them' message, or words to that effect, when I started to view my groups.
ONCE since I've been on NTL has that happened to me. I have emailed them
asking to include the new group, but I aint holding my breath. :(
supposedly they have gotten better recently, but theyre still awful by
most standards.

And the understatement of the year award goes to..... ;)
Yeah, you're telling me. They are bobbins. Of course though, I never knew of
this before I switched. I'm still under 12 month contract too - although I
wouldn't dump them just yet anyway, they are upgrading *all* their customers
to 10MB speed during 2006 (with their new packages defined by monthly usage
allowance, all on the standard 10MB speed). The previously 3MB customers
have already been done, then us 1MB and 2MB'ers are upgraded next. All for
the same fee one currently pays. So I will give them a little grace on this
one little niggle. :)
So I don't really buy the argument about newsgroups killing their bandwidth
and them not getting paid for it, NTL in particular have bandwidth to throw
around like confetti. They're also far more profitable than Wanadoo, who
were great for news service and updated their server constantly.
to planet online (as did a lot of isp's at the time) so that might be
why the service was a bit better as it was handled by a dedicated
team, whereas you get the feeling that a lot of isp's now don't really
pay much attention to usenet.
