Is there a good alternative for NTL's servers that is good for us stingy
folk who don't want to cough up more money?

Great servers, great service, and yes you have to pay for it, but it's €10 (about £7) a year, just over 50 pence a month, and great value. Only downside is no binary groups, not that I ever need them.
