Having paid the cheques into your mother's account, then once you
receive grant of probate, you can extract the new funds together with
the old.

Thanks, however my mother's account has been frozen to prevent anything going out of it. I was lead to believe that nothing can go into a deceased persons account either. Presumably this means I will have to l pay in cheques via the office that deals with deceased account holders estates rather than just hand them in to a branch?

At HBOS my late mothers current account wasn't frozen... just on the debit side of things. I can't speak for all banks but at HBOS they allowed anything to be paid in for many months after death.

On a slightly different note I arranged the freezing of the account in person at a branch. Two weeks later after chasing their estates settlement department up for a letter of confirmation, I learned that it hadn't been frozen after all. Consequently direct debits were still going out. That error cost Lloyds TSB over £200 as they had to refund the amount back to replace what went out.
