Pay rises may or may not be linked to inflation - depends on the employer.
Most employers, I suggest would not be silly enough to make this link. What
happens if the firm hits a bad spell and still pays a pay rise and then goes
bust? Who's the gainer here? A lot of people think they should get
inflation-linked rises, but they are living on this planet. Years ago
(before Maggie Thatcher) unions ruled the roost and would call their members
out on strike if they didn't get a suitable rise (whether the firm was able
to afford it or not). Not so many of these firms around now.
