The Nationwide web site says that their credit card gives 'free purchase

I bought a jacket using my card before going on holiday to Australia. I
hung
it on a hook on a train and in our hurry to get off the late running
train to make our next connection left it behind. It was not handed in to
lost property.
I phoned Nationwide yesterday and they gave me the number for their
insurers
0208 207 9250. I phoned the number and the automated voice did not even
give
the company name. I took the option to speak to a real person but gave up
after 46 minutes. I then sent an E-Mail to Nationwide telling them of my
loss and that while their insurers valued my custom they did not get round
to speaking to me.
Derek.
I was equally unsuccessful when I tried to make a claim from
Nationwide for a PDA whose screen got damaged while on a overseas
trip.
I took the unit to the local HP service centre who replaced the entire
unit for about half the price of what an original would have cost. I
submitted a claim to Nationwide's insurers for the amount that HP had
charged me, together will all receipts and documentation. The claim
was rejected on the grounds that the small-print says I should have
given the insurers the opportunity to examine the goods before any
repairs were carried out.
I`d be surprised if they had paid out in the circumstances you describe -
did you tell them the item was damaged before you had it repaired?
I didn't, mainly because I was on a business trip overseas and needed
to have a working unit available asap. I assumed they would accept the
documentation from an official service centre as evidence that the
unit had been damaged and repaired.
