NU always, in the end, give me about the best quote.
But why do I have to phone them and negotiate the renewal quote to get up to
£150 of reductions with no change of cover? Why not just give me the best
quote?

My Direct Line home cover had crept up to £300+ p.a. I looked for
online quotes and one of these was for £103 - with Direct Line. I took
out a policy with them for that amount, and cancelled existing cover.
Exactly the same policy document/cover.(except that where old policy
premium was calculated on buildings value I'm now automatically
covered up to a more than adequate maximum sum insured.)
I'm reasonably sure that if I'd just phoned to pay renewal by credit
card, they would have been happy to take £300+
