The recent interest rate could well explain it as the last payment I
made had not increased to reflect the raise. The interest is calculated
daily and the bank assures me that there are no penalties so I can only
assume that the bank will work it out correctly!
Someone once told me to not bother making overpayments on a mortgage.
Their logic was the £1000 I put in today is worth more in real terms
than £2000 saved in 25 years time. However I would have thought the
fact that mortgages have a higher interest rate than savings can
attract is a better argument for making overpayments
.
