BG & Centrica

My aunt has recently died and I've found two share certificates - BG (13 Dec
99) & Centrica (11 May 1999).
The BG certificate states that it replaces an old BG certificate which is no
longer valid. The Centrica certificate represents the holding following a
consolidation in May 1999.

Are these certificates still valid? I find the situation confusing after the
demergers involving British Gas, BG, Centrica etc. I suppose my next step
is to contact the Registrar, which is Lloyds TSB. Grateful for any help in
the meantime.
