NSCA's 2nd Conference on local authority response to climate change
Climate Change - 'Where Next for Local Action?
Wednesday 1st February 2006
Institute of Physics, London
NSCA is holding its 2nd conference on local authority response to climate
change on the 1st February at the Institute of Physics, London. This event
is a timely opportunity to consider the implications of the forthcoming
revision to the UK's climate change program and how it will support local
efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The programme will include Keynote Presentations from:
a.. Elliot Morley MP, Minister of State for Climate Change and Environment
b.. Peter Cox, Centre for Ecology and Hydrology
Followed by a panel debate: Local Action - Realising the Potential
a.. Peter Brunt, DTI
b.. Cllr Mike Haines, LGA Environment Board
c.. Adrian Hewitt, Merton Borough Council
d.. Roger Levett, Levertt-Therivel
The Afternoon Workshops will focus on:
a.. Local Emissions Data and Inventories - Barriers and Opportunities
Justin Goodwin, AEAT; Steve Waller, Idea; Patrick Vickerman, Crawley BC
A chance to learn more about the opportunities, drivers and barriers for
using local level emissions data to support action on climate change. There
will be updates on the development of NEAI data-sets, new inventory tools
and potential 'drivers' such as the Nottingham declaration.
a.. Engaging with Local Communities on Climate Change
Chris Church, Community Environment Associates
This session will look at how to engage and work with the wider voluntary
and community sector on climate change (and not just those already
interested). Any local strategy is going to need the widest possible local
buy-in to be successful and this workshop will consider ways to engage
organisations including social networks, faith groups etc. and will review
some recent initiatives to show what can be achieved once that engagement is
secured.
