UK Green Energy Tariffs

Hi folks,
My current electricity provider (I don't have gas) is Scottish Hydro
Electric. I was thinking of shifting to their RSPB Energy tariff, where
they claim they will match my electricity demand FROM the grid with an
equal supply of electricity from renewable sources ONTO the grid. Oh,
and they donate some cash to RSPB.
>>From reading around though, (e.g. the current issue of Ethical Consumer
which profiles different green energy tariffs and the companies behind
them), I'm concerned that since all providers are legally obliged to
provide a percentage of their electricity from renewable sources
anyway, that my switching tariffs may have no 'real' impact on demand
for renewables.
The Ethical Consumer mag has some recommendations including energy
companies specialising in green energy, rather than mainstream
providers offering 'green tariffs'. I'm quite interested in one deal
from Green Energy called 'Green Energy 100', where my electricity usage
places a direct demand on renewable energy sources.
I guess my question is: would anyone care to share their experience
with such specialist green energy companies? i.e. how is the customer
service, have any problems been resolved satisfactorily etc. Or you may
be aware of other issues and considerations that i ought to take into
account.
Thanks,
Jimi
p.s. Scottish Hydro are also marketting a scheme called 'power2' but
when i phoned and asked for the difference between this and the RSPB
energy deal, they didn't seem to know, nor have they fulfilled their
promise to supply me with further info comparing the two.
.
