Did anyone see the feature on the BBC this morning. The cull in
Northumberland results in selling the meat in supermarkets, and squirrel
meat is said to be selling well. As the numbers decline in Northumberland
the operation is moving to Durham.

If grey squirrel meat becomes popular enough to be a commercially viable
product, it won't be long before the squirrels are seen as a valuable
resource, worthy of conservation, in common with other 'game'.

Reds probably taste just as good ( I once found a Red road kill, but
it was a bit far gone for the table), so this harvesting might result
in stable populations of both species The majority one at any given
time will end up taking the biggest cull.
