Almost on a daily basis we see reports from those who want to kill
grey squirrels saying that red squirrels have no resistance to SQPV.

So what scientific evidence exists to support their claim?

I may be mistaken, of course, but my understanding is that, where samples
from red squirrels have been tested, only a very few have shown antibodies
associated with exposure to the virus, and the animals from which the
'positive' samples were taken, subsequently succumbed to the disease. If
that is the case, it would seem to imply that few, if any, of the red
squirrels which have been tested have contracted the disease and survived
it.

From the Forestry Commission:

"We are not aware of any scientific evidence one way or another as to
whether or not there is a resistant population of reds out there. If
you are aware of scientific evidence to the contrary we would welcome
hearing from you."

But if there no evidence one way or the other, the red squirrel groups
are lying when they say reds have no immunity, when in truth they
don't know.

Obviously, unless all UK red squirrel populations have been tested (for
squirrel pox resistance), no-one can prove, beyond doubt, that there is no
"immune" population. However, given that the VLA (in England and Wales), and
the equivalent organisations in Scotland and Northern Ireland, are
monitoring and analysing incidences of this and similar diseases, any such
'immune' populations would seem likely to be 'discovered' in due course.

Not if it doesn't suit their agenda! It's obvious as with all forms of
virus, in all forms of species. Some have immunity, some don't. If the
fakes advocating the slaughter of greys were to tell the truth they
would negate the need for slaughtering the greys. Bit like the RSPB
pushing through the legislation that forced the slaughter of European
ruddy ducks. Now they do everything but admit it was their work that
forced it through.
