I don't happen to be a sad retired so-called scientist trying to
impress his French neighbours about his bulldog character and to their
great amusement banging on about shade reducing weeds as though it was
some kind of scientific breakthrough.

Here's an experiment that is about your level: Leave a *** of
plywood in the middle of your lawn and see how the grass reduces :-))
