which suggests your suspicions are correct. About a year ago, however,
I recall some concern being expressed by German scientists about trees
emitting significant quantities of methane, so that may have a bearing,
too.

Did you read the comments about the correction/clarification placed in the
Guardian.

My own observation is that growing trees have to store up carbon. If they
emit methane it comes from CO2. Methane is a powerful greenhouse gas more
so than CO2.

The writer makes the main point that planting of trees has a complex
relationship with global warming.

But this is not the only research that has questioned the value of trees
to combat climate change.
