RSPB feels bird scaring to protect shellfish farms from birds each stealing
a claimed 2.5 kgs of cultivated shellfish per day, threatens its reserves.
Perhaps someone will offer to pay the shellfishrarmers for not scaring the
birds off the shellfish they grow for their trade?
Otherwise, if the ban on scaring is upheld, and the shellfishfarmers go out
of business, there won't be any farmed shellfish either for humans or birds
to squabble over - a lose-lose situation?
I don't think compensation should be paid to any business for losses
due to natural phenomena nor should businesses take action against
wildlife for competition. If people want to farm shellfish then
they should accept there will be losses to birds.
