We're back to the 'tragedy of the commons' - a seemingly unavoidable trait
of human nature - again. What we need, IMO, is either a cheap and ubiquitous
form of energy that meets the needs of all parts of the planet, without
causing significant CO2 emissions, or a reduction in global population such
that total CO2 emissions are reduced to historic levels. If we don't achieve
the former, the latter seems likely to be forced upon us. Or our
descendents, perhaps. Are we destined to be whispered of by future
generations in the same way as the Greeks spoke of the Atlanteans?
