What was your first week like after you qualified? I look forward to
hearing from you. I bet you have some good scare stories out there! :)
I did supply teaching just after I qualified. And I have quite clear memories of my first day.
I got a phone call from the agency at about ten past nine to go to one of the local comprehensives. Not a good start - I hate being late.
On arrival, a time table was thrust into my hand and I was pointed in the direction of the lab for the first lesson. The teacher 'holding the fort' scowled at me as I entered and said 'They're all yours' and left.
So I assess what I have to work with. No exercise books, no paper, none of the kids had pens or pencils, no chalk (this was quite some time ago.) Five different answers to 'What was the topic for the last lesson?'
Anyway I decide on a topic, send one of the little darlings off for some writing equipment. I've finally got the class settled and a real lesson in progress. I'm just thinking this isn't too bad ... and then the ceiling fell in. Literally. Great gobs of plaster everywhere. Not much learning occurred after that.
Good luck.
