It took 6 weeks to get to the point where the police investigated
everybody involved, and two hours for them to interview her.

Your wife needs legal advice from her union. It's pretty unlikely that
she can get very far with any action against the mother, and the process
of doing so would probably be more distressing than dealing with the
accusation has been.

We don't want financial redress, merely to make the mother aware of
just what effect her actions have had on my wife and the school, and
receive some kind of grudging acknowledgement. We daren't hope for as
much as an apology. At the moment we are forbidden to contact this
woman in any way.
