I think it is to our advantage not to shout, in normal circumstances.
This adds to the "shock value" of shouting in abnormal
circumstances/emergencies. For example...
I once had two seventeen-year-old boys go for one anothers' throats
(an argument over a girlfriend). They were so shocked to hear me
shout at them that they stopped, and I was able to tell them how
disgusted I was that they should behave like that in my lesson and
that they should report to the HOD. They went like lambs. Shouting
is too good a tool to waste.
