It's not according to the national curriculum, but maybe it should be.
I think we need creative people to give us an outlet (so it's
important for the future people who aren't), and also that children
need to be taught these processes as an outlet for themselves. Also,
some children really only shine at the 'arts' subjects, and wouldn't
necessarily know that other than through school as they don't all have
the chance to experience it at home. (Ok, 'shining' at an arts
subject depends on point of view - but I'm not brilliant at music, but
would probably have been [much more] insane without it).

Yes, sometimes: if the teacher doesn't have these skills (I don't
think I know any teacher who is brilliant at *all* the arts) then it
is good for the children to sometimes not follow QCA schemes or
whatever else is in place, and it is also good for them to be able to
speak to artists about their creative processes and inspirations etc

Yes, good teachers will make the links, but might be more likely to
hire artists who have already made the links, and advertise themselves
this way.
