I hope this may help rather than inflame the situation.

I have one phone line so when I had dial up I could either use the phone or
the internet not both. I couldn't be bothered to get another phone line so
used my mobile if I was on the internet.

I now have BT broadband and with it they send this thing called a splitter
which I put into my phone line at the wall. In this I put my phone cord
thingy and my home hub.

Like magic this now means I can be on the phone and on the internet at the
same time. It is like having two lines in one. If I want to have a phone in
another room then I would buy one of those multi handset cordless phone sets
with a main base which I would plug into the splitter thingy then put the
other bases into other rooms. Because they all share the same line and are
cordless I don't need any more cords.
