Poor Jennie dont you just like situations like that just before you beginYes the DH is safe and there was definitely an element of smugness about her

I suppose the DH is safe?? Not sure why that should be the case but do I
detect an element of smugness there?/ Is there no one on the staff that
would welcome redundancy ..at my school they would be fighting for it..
reaction.
The school is fab and the staff on the whole are great so no-one wants to
leave!! Also the job market is so poor for experienced teachers and it is
one of those they are going to get rid of!!!
Having only recently gone through hell with trying to and getting a job I
will fight for my job.

Many years ago in a similar position I found it useful to get a job
where I wanted to be - I literally walked into a primary vacancy because
the secondary school i was at had to lose a certain number of teachers.
I didn't even have an interview - just a day looking round the primary
school. So maybe the teacher who wants to move to another area will be
lucky this way.

4 years ago we needed to reduce our classes by 1. Everything was
explained to all involved, and initial anxiety was that a person would
be identified for redundancy, with the possibility of the LEA
sanctioning early retirement. After a while, 3 people said they would
be prepared to leave if early retirement was offered. So we went from
anxiety over being identified by all, to anxiety amongst the 3 who
wanted to retire early not being identified. In the end, 2 were
unhappy because they did not get early retirement, and are still
teaching in the school. Sometimes, this can work to an individuala
favour by allowing them to retire. the process is extremely
complicated and stressful for all involved. The best advice is, talk
to your union, watch out for people not telling you their true plans &
opinions (colleagues as well as SMT) and try to be clear on what you
want from the whole process.
