I've been asked to recommend a basic printer for a classroom.

Do you really want to commit yourself?

Yes.

If not, tell whoever is asking that THEY need to consider the following.

How many computers will be linked to it?

1

If a few computers will be networked to it, consider laser.

No network.

If you are looking at several computers, each with their own printer,
consider networking them to one printer.

How?

Is speed of printing important?

No.

(How many copies of a document at a time
are likely to be required?)

1

What type of printing will it regularly be used for? (documents,
photographs, art work ... )

Mostly the first and last.

Look at the price of consumables. If the cost of replacing them is more
than/similar to the cost of the printer, discount that printer and find
another option. Remember to factor in cartridge life expectancy to any
cost analysis.

Have you really not got a network?
The whole point of RM is that you can Schoolshare and have a peer-to-peer
network!
