The blinds were down.

What sort of blinds though? Light ones or dark ones that cause the room
to darken significantly?

Silvery Venetian ones that are a PITA.

They won't cut enough light.

Also, the image fades as the bulb gets older, so if the image has
gradually deteriorated, it could be a sign that your bulb is on the way
out. Get a new bulb ready! If this is the case, when the new builb is
fitted, there should be an improvement in quality.

How easy is it to change the bulb - and where can you get them?

You haven't had the pleasure of exploring projector lamps yet????
For a start, see Ellie's post about lamp costs.

Then find out what model projector you have and make enquiries about
spare lamps. (Google.uk for " xxxx spare lamp" where xxxx is the make
and model. This will give you an idea of price.)

Then compare with prices of new projectors that are capable of doing the
job you want (right number of lumens/adequate keystone, etc.). Projector
sales sites will often be helpful in explaining the contrasting options.
Also consider the ongoing costs (spare lamps/servicing) for these new
models.

Then if you think a new lamp for the current projector is the way to go,
order one (from one of the sources you mentioned earlier or via your
authority's purchasing consortium or whatever) and dig out the
instruction manual, because you'll ned the lamp fitting instructions to
hand at the appropriate time.

I bet we've got no spares and the projector will hiccough while a
spectre is there.

And of course, if it is dimming, there is also the possibility that the
projector filters haven't been cleaned and that is the cause of the
problem...
