Why do they say that? We never said we had half a dee when we had
ha'pennies! in good old Pounds Shillings & Pence days (Nearly said LSD
days....)
Yeahbut, we didn't say half penny either!
(And I don't like 'pee' either. - Don't start Griffiths!)

Ha'pennies? Pah, currency for simple folk.

Hands up if anyone can tell me what one and eleven three means?

I'd guess at
one shilling, eleven pence, three farthings.

And how much would a dozen of those cost? Quickly, now. In your head.

oh.. umm. errr... Ok, so
12x3 = 36 and there were 4 farthings to a penny (I think - farthings were out by the time I were a lass) so that's 9d then
12 x 11 = 132 plus that 9d = 141d and there were 12 pennies to a shilling so that's 11s with 9d left
then
12 x 1 = 12 plus that 11s = 23s and there were 20s to a pound
so if my creaky pre-decimalisation-halfway-through-junior-school maths is right then, I make that
£1 3s 9d
Have I been short-changed?

Now, Add fourpence and thruppence ha'penny and sevenpence three farthings. How much change do you have from a crown? You have 8 seconds...

Then what about groats and guineas?

You lot are beginning to show your age here you know.
