I found a half pence the other day. Ahhhh those were the days.

Red Pen!!

The singular of our currency coins is penny: plural is pence. I have just
complained to the post office who offer a discount of once pence (sic) to
people in the 020 area (i.e. London) who have one of their telephone cards.

So, say after me: "I found a half PENNY the other day" (You may say
ha'penny, like what we used to do in my younger days... I remember the fare
to school used to be 3 ha'pence - or 1 1/2 d : or 1.5 old pence, which
equals 0.5 new penny)

How about "I found a half pee"?
